First GAC Belgian Presidency, Minister Fitto: "Important semester also in preparation for next institutional cycle"

29 January 2024

The Minister for European Affairs, the South, Cohesion Policies and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, participated today in the General Affairs Council, the first of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

"The Belgian Presidency will be very important because it is the last of this legislature. Not only will it have to try to close some still-open dossiers but above all he will have to prepare for the next institutional cycle", said Minister Fitto.

Italy supports these efforts that are in the common interest and intends to work with the Belgian Government to make this commitment successful.

The usual rule of law dialogue is also on the agenda, during which all 27 Member States in turn update the Council on the basis of the relevant Commission recommendations.

"I explained to the Council the commitment Italy is making and the results it is achieving in a particular way for speeding up of trials and digitising of the judicial system", said Minister Fitto. These are objectives contained in our NRRP, to which we are committed with great determination.
