Coordination Meetings

Article 42 of Law No. 234/2012 places in the hands of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in agreement with relevant Ministries, the decisions concerning interventions within ongoing proceedings before the Court of Justice of the EU in order to protect major national interests.

The Department for European Policies, in agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Government Agent before the Court of Justice of the European Union, periodically convenes coordination meetings with the aim of activating systematic liaising between the concerned public administrations and the Avvocatura Generale dello Stato (the State legal advisory service) whenever relevant national interests need be protected before the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The Government's aim is to prevent or reduce possible litigations before European Courts while providing a useful and immediate working tool for the Avvocatura Generale dello Stato during preparation of the statements of case.
