EU and national funds: Minister Fitto meets with regional presidents

29 May 2023

Meetings are continuing with the Presidents of Italy’s individual Regions to allow for institutional coordination with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers on the planning and use of national and EU funds.

Following the meetings held on 25 May, the Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, is continuing discussions with regional authorities. Meetings will be held this morning with the President of the Basilicata Region, Vito Bardi, with the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, with the President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, with the President of the Emilia Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, and with the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio. The meetings will continue this afternoon with the Presidents of the Abruzzo, Lombardy and Tuscany Regions, respectively Marco Marsilio, Attilio Fontana and Eugenio Giani.

“The aim is to optimise possible synergies between cohesion policy measures for the 2014-2020 and 2021-2027 programming periods and the NRRP”, stated Minister Fitto, “by taking stock of the progress of programme implementation, starting with the programmes for the 2014-2020 period. This appraisal will allow for an optimal use of funds that, until now, have not been managed in a synergistic and efficient way, with obvious repercussions on the level of disparity between different areas of the country” he explained. “This collaboration process is necessary to correct mistakes from the past and focus on the strategic measures that can allow Italy to align to the level it deserves and that Europe requires of us” concluded Minister Fitto.
