Moving to another Member State for study or work purposes, doing business in the EU can take time, cost and force citizens and businesses into complex bureaucratic procedures. From 12 December 2023, the "Once-Only Technical System" has become fully operational, a project of the European Commission, together with the public authorities of the Member States, within the framework of the Single Digital Gateway, which makes it easy to share all the information necessary for the completion of an administrative procedure.

The registration of a car, the opening of a business, the application for a pension are some of the 21 procedures that can be managed with the "Once-Only system" for the automated cross-border exchange of documents and the application of the "once-only" principle according to which citizens and businesses will only once provide information to public authorities, which in turn will be able to communicate directly in a simplified way.

The new one-off system uses a cross-border digital infrastructure, the Your Europe Portal, which has been supporting citizens and businesses in Member States since 2020 on online public services and administrative procedures.

The next step is the full use of the system by more than 80 thousand national authorities across the EU but also by citizens and businesses who will be able to use it to access and manage administrative procedures digitally. The full and full functioning of the "Once Only" technical system will be the most effective solution to reduce administrative burdens and break down bureaucratic barriers.

In Italy, coordination has been ensured by the Department for European Affairs, together with the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID). The European Commission has also verified that Italy, together with three other Member States, is in the most advanced technical phase for online procedures.
