Project FRED 2, Venice hosts the seminar "Mapping knowledge in the fight against fraud"

20 February 2024

On 19 and 20 February 2024, the project workshop entitled "Mapping knowledge in the fight against fraud" was held in Venice. The initiative was promoted as part of the training project on the protection of the EU's financial interests called "Fraud Repression through EDucation (FRED2)", co-financed by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) of the EU Commission with the EU Anti-Fraud Programme (UAFP) and carried out in synergy between the Research Centre 'Impresapiens' of the University La Sapienza in Rome and the Unit of the Guardia di Finanza to combat fraud against the EU at the Department for European Affairs, as Technical Secretariat of the Committee for the  fight against fraud in the European Union.

The event, held at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista in Venice and the Veneto Regional Command of the Guardia di Finanza, was attended by important authorities, including Rosanna Conte, member of the European Parliament, Andrea Rocchi, Project Manager of FRED2 and President of CREA Ricerca, Fabrizio D'Ascenzo, Extraordinary Commissioner INAIL, General of Division Riccardo Rapanotti, Regional Commander Veneto of the Guardia di Finanza, Alberto Pastore, Director of the Management Department of La Sapienza University of Rome, Francesco Lo Gerfo, Seconded National Expert Magistrate at OLAF, Eduard IVANOV, Representative of the International Anti-Corruption Academy, Walter NEGRINI, Deputy Director of the Suspective Operations Department of the Financial Information Unit of the Bank of Italy, and Emma RIZZATO, European Delegated Prosecutor in Italy at the territorial office of Venice.

The meeting highlighted, once again, how the project "FRED2" represents an important educational opportunity for Euro-project experts and students, as well as a great opportunity to create a permanent network (task-force) of high level composed of members of the national academic-institutional world and the European network of anti-fraud coordination service (AFCOS), aimed at strengthening the exchange of information, experiences and good practices on procedures for preventing and combating fraud at the EU budget, as well as identifying behaviours and profiles of carat risk.
