"Growing pro-EU sentiment, let's not disappoint expectations and speed up the National Recovery and Resilience Plan"

8 February 2022

"The new Eurobarometer data published today by the European Parliament are very comforting. Trust, approval and a sense of belonging to the EU are growing among Italians," the Undersecretary for European Affairs, Vincenzo Amendola, wrote in a post published on Facebook.

"When asked whether or not Italy has benefited from its membership of the EU, Italians who responded positively went from 52 to 63 per cent. And what are the benefits of EU membership, according to Italians? Cooperation, peace and security, economic growth and the fight against climate change.

There is no doubt that the EU's reaction as a single force to the first health and then economic and social crisis of the pandemic has increased the feeling of being part of the same destiny community. This is why, in order not to disappoint or betray such expectations, we are accelerating the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Italy's PNRR). This is a great opportunity that must be turned into real projects for change. We must tell ourselves every day: do well, do quickly, Italy will not wait."
