Conference on the future of Europe, inaugural plenary session

The inaugural session of the Conference on the Future of Europe is going to take place on 19 June at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The event, opening at 9 a.m., will also be broadcast online via the Parliament's Multimedia Centre and on the European Parliament's Facebook page.

The topics on the agenda include the objectives and expectations of the Conference, in particular: European Citizens' Panels and national panels/events; the multilingual digital platform; the calendar for the plenary sessions of the Conference, the European Citizens' Panels and the European Citizens' Event; and the proposal on the organisation of thematic working groups.

The Conference plenary will be composed of 108 MEPs, 108 representatives of all national parliaments and 108 citizens (80 representatives of the panels, including at least one third under 25 years old, and 27 from national citizens' meetings or Conference events), 54 representatives of the EU Council (two per Member State) and 3 from the European Commission, as well as 18 delegates from the Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee and eight others from social partners and civil society. The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy will be invited when the international role of the EU is discussed. The Plenary composition will ensure adequate gender balance.
