First established in 2006 via President of the Council of Ministers Decree (DPCM) dated 28 July, the Task Force for EU Infringement Procedures was reconfirmed throughout subsequent years, most recently via DPCM dated 2 October 2019.
Directly reporting to the Minister for European Affairs, the Task Force enhances coordination of activities for prevention and resolution of EU infringement procedures, and operates to prevent litigations and possible financial penalties imposed by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The Task Force undertakes to act as promptly as possible, even prior to formal commencement of any infringement procedures, to ensure timely transposition and correct application of EU law, and reply to the European Commission already at complaint stage.
The Task Force furthermore ensures coordination and assistance of national administrations and interaction with the European Commission, contributing to the resolution of infringement procedures and reduction of overall EU litigations, in line with the Government's priority objectives.
The Task Force has successfully boosted Italy's management of infringement procedures, enhancing dialogue with the European Commission and ensuring better coordination of the national response to Commission's requests for information, letters of formal notice, and reasoned opinions.
